Philippe Patrick Starck (January 18th, 1949 in Paris) is a French designer and supposed to be the most known representative of the new Design. His drafts are versatile and reach into nearly each profession, from architecture to product Design. He designs spectacular interior arrangements as well as simple flyswatters and toothbrushes. Philippe Starck studied at the Ecole Nissim de Camondo in Paris. In 1965 he won the furniture competition "La Vilette “and created in 1968 a company for inflatable objects. In 1971/72 he became the art-leader in the studio Pierre Cardin. As from 1976 for the first time he designed the interior of two night clubs and finally created the company "Starck Products “ in 1980. Philippe Starck experienced a career boost when he arranged the private rooms of president François Mitterrand in the Palace Élysée in 1980. His ascent continued and he became a celebrated star designer of the 1980s, particularly in the USA and in Japan. The interior of the café Costes in Paris (1984, closed 1994) became world-famous.
